RIO VISTA – With playoff hopes seemingly hanging in the balance, the Rio Vista Lady Eagles thumped the Lady Tigers on the road Friday, 13-1. The Lady Tigers were also outhit by the home team, 14-6 – with all six of the hits coming from the top-half of the batting order.
Rio Vista scored one run in the first inning, three more in the second and five in the third while the Lady Tiger hitters struggled to string together hits.
Madi Gibson, who finished 2-for-3 at the plate, roped a double to deep left-center field to easily score shortstop Destenie Lewis for the sole Glen Rose run.
Sydney Lozier, Page Green, Lewis and Sabrina Watson accounted for the other four Glen Rose hits on a night when the Lady Tigers went down on strikes eleven times.
Outside of the outcome, the game was a stark contrast to the previous meeting between the two teams on March 8. In that Glen Rose win, which was its first during district play, head coach Kiel Miller’s bunch scored four runs in the first inning before falling behind 5-4 during the fourth. Gibson drove home two runs with a double to right-center field in the fifth inning to plate the eventual winning run.
The Lady Tigers return to the diamond Tuesday in a road tilt against Keene. Glen Rose won the previous meeting 26-8 in three innings thanks largely in part to 22 walks.
