GLEN ROSE – In their final home game of the 2016 season, the Lady Tigers nearly avenged a March 26 loss to then-No. 10 Hillsboro. With most seniors singing their swan song on the Glen Rose diamond, Kiel Miller’s ballclub threatened late, but fell 3-1 Tuesday evening.

Glen Rose matched the powerful Hillsboro lineup with six hits – shortstop Destenie Lewis collected three of those for the Lady Tigers – and eight-total base runners. The only real, and obvious, difference was that the Lady Eagles got the bounces they needed to plate the two extra runs.

After she scored on a pair of errors in the third inning for the second Lady Eagle run, Hillsboro shortstop and Nicholls State commit, Elexus Trenkle launched a fifth inning home run that provided enough insurance to seal the win.

Sabrina Watson needed 72 pitches to complete her last home start on the rubber. She allowed two earned runs on three hits and struck out two. Watson also slugged a double – the second of the night for Glen Rose – to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning.

The first double for the Lady Tigers came in the bottom of the third and the Lady Tigers down 2-0.

Page Green used her speed to force an infield error and was then moved to second on an Aubrey Starnes slow roller to Trenkle at shortstop. Destenie Lewis picked up RBI No. 21 on the season with her double to left field that easily scored Green from second base.

Madi Gibson and Green accounted for the other two Lady Tiger hits.

The loss came on the heels of the 7-0 Grandview win Friday over visiting Glen Rose. In that contest, Green and Sydney Lozier collected the only two Lady Tiger hits.

Glen Rose will wrap up the season Friday afternoon on the road against Millsap. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
