GLEN ROSE - Over 700 4th and 5th grade students entered the Texas Water Utilities Association's annual essay contest and one Glen Rose Intermediate student shined.
Hannah Balkenbush, a GRIS fourth grader, was presented with a second place ribbon and a $100 prize by Katen Siddall. Siddall is that public relations coordinator and education administrator for the Prairielands Groundwater Conservation District.
The theme for this year's contest was "The Texas Water Cycle - from parched to plenty." During the award presentation Friday morning, Balkenbush read her winning essay in front of the entire fourth grade, GRIS teachers, administration and her mother.
