AUSTIN – When the 2016 Texas Girls Coaches Association's All-State teams were announced Wednesday afternoon, it may have come as a shock to some to see a sophomore on the list. Unless of course that sophomore is Glen Rose standout Ally Andress and you've been keeping tabs.
Fresh off of a second place finish in the girls high jump at the UIL 3A Track and Field Championships, Andress, along with 14 other girls, was named to the 2016 TGCA 3A All-State Track and Field Team.
During the state championships, Andress and Abigail Lalley, a Merkel High School senior and now back-to-back 3A State Champion, each cleared 5-foot-6. Neither cleared 5-foot-7 and the resulting tiebreaker put Andress in the second position.
Lalley, for what it's worth, was not named to the TGCA All-State team.
Andress also qualified for the Area and Regional track meets in the girls’ triple jump and was a three-time high-point athlete during the 2016 track season.
