GLEN ROSE – Following the retirement of Glen Rose ISD Assistant Superintendent of Operations Tommy Gibson, which led to the June 1 promotion of Glen Rose High School Principal Tommy Corcoran, GRISD was in need of a new high school principal.
The search ceased 26 days after being posted when GRISD Superintendent G. Wayne Rotan announced the selection of Kelly Shackelford as the next GRHS head honcho.
“Mr. Shackelford was chosen from an outstanding pool of candidates,” Rotan said. “I am very excited to have him as part of the Glen Rose ISD administration. He brings a great deal of passion, energy and experience to the high school principal position.
“Kelly is a man of great character and will be a great asset to Glen Rose High School and the Glen Rose community.”
Prior to stepping on the GRHS campus Aug. 22 for the first day of school, Shackelford will already have 18 years of experience in the field of education under his belt with the last 13 years spent in Bowie ISD.
Shackelford has most recently spent the last five years (2011-16) in BISD as the high school principal. He also served as the Bowie Junior High principal (2009-11), BHS assistant principal (2008-09) and Bowie ISD administrative assistant (2006-08).
He began his career in Nocona ISD as a science teach and coach (1997-99) before spending the next three years in Hico ISD (1999-02).
Kelly and his wife Margaret have two kids – Carter and Davis. Carter, a multisport athlete, signed a National Letter of Intent with Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene where he will play baseball and football. Davis will be a freshman at GRHS during the upcoming school year.
