Glen Rose High School volleyball Logan Smith, only a sophomore, has been named one of the Glen Rose Reporter's two premiere "Players Of The Week."

This weekly designation will be selected based on performance, statistical information, and input from the respective coaches.

Smith's stellar performance – she’s already wearing out volleyballs for the Lady Tigers – has earned her this distinction.

In Tuesday’s straight-sets win over Tolar, Smith led the Lady Tigers in kills, with 14, and digs, with 13. That victory elevated the season record for Glen Rose to 20-3.

Smith recorded 85 kills and 82 digs playing in six matches in the Argyle tournament, which concluded last Saturday, Aug. 27.

Glen Rose won its first five matches in the tournament to reach the championship game before falling to host team Argyle, 25-20, 26-24, 25-23. Argyle is the defending Class 4A volleyball state champion.

On Aug. 22, Glen Rose head volleyball coach Sandy Langford earned career victory No. 300 with a straight-sets win over China Spring. Langford has averaged winning more than 30 matches a year during her nine-plus seasons as a head coach.

The Lady Tigers are set to play at Cleburne Friday, and will be at home taking on Rio Vista Tuesday.

District 8-4A competition will begin Sept. 13, at home against Venus.
