GLEN ROSE – To start the 2016 volleyball season, senior Glen Rose standout Sophie Bozarth picked up where she left off last year – as a dominant performer.

For her performances in two Glen Rose non-district volleyball victories, Bozarth is the Glen Rose Reporter’s volleyball athlete of the week.

In the Lady Tigers’ win in straight sets over Tolar Friday, Bozarth recorded 14 kills, 16 digs and 24 assists.

Tuesday night, in another non-district win in straight sets, over Rio Vista, Bozarth had 7 kills, 5 digs and 24 assists.

“She’s just a great leader on our team,” Lady Tigers’ head coach Sandy Langford said of Bozarth. “She sees the court really well. She’s one of our go-to people.”

The setter and strong-side hitter was voted as an all-state performer by the Texas Girls Coaches Association in 2015 – for the second straight season.

Bozarth, now in her fourth year as a starter for the Lady Tigers, was voted as the district’s Most Valuable Player last year, as a server. This year, Bozarth has earned all-tournament honors at the Nike Classic, the Glen Rose tournament and the Argyle tournament.

The wins over Tolar and Rio Vista improved the Lady Tigers to 22-3 on the season.
