Granbury Theatre Company will continue its 2017 Broadway on the Brazos season with 9 to 5: The Musicalon Feb. 24 - March 19 at the historic Granbury Opera House in Downtown Granbury.
With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, the musical is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie, according to Music Theatre International. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic. Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy, and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?
Leading the cast are Courtney Mitchell, Neely Heil, and Emily Warwick as Violet, Doralee, and Judy. Charles Mason portrays the boss, Franklin Hart Jr. Mitchell and Heil are new to the Opera House, with Heil making her stage debut. Mitchell’s recent credits include Beauty and the Beast, Into the Woods, and Mary Poppins in Cleburne. Warwick is an Opera House regular in shows such as The Marvelous Wonderettes,Oliver!, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Mason made his first appearance in Granbury during last fall’s Oliver!
Rounding out the cast are Joshua Carpenter, Nicole Carrano, Kristin Cox, Gale Gilbert, Jake Kelly Harris, Megan Hildebrand, Patricia E. Hill, Connie Ingram, Brittany Jenkins, Jared Kyle, Christian Loper, Autumn McKee, Jeff Meador, David Midkiff, Debra Midkiff, Zachary Pletcher, Micky Shearon, Cody Thomas, and Gary Williams.
9 to 5: The Musical is under the direction of Brian Lawson, who was previously at the helm of the GTC musicals Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and The Marvelous Wonderettes. Katy Beckermann is the assistant director, while Jamie Deel is leading music direction. Designers for the production are: Domanick Anton Hubbard, choreography; Nicholas Graves, scenery; Cameron Barrus, lighting; Kyle Hoffman, sound; Wayne Trimble, film and projections; Emily Warwick, costumes; Gaylene Carpenter, props. Brittany Brown is the stage manager assisted by Whitney Shearon.
Performances times are 7:30 P.M. on Fridays, 2:00 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. on Saturdays, and 2:00 P.M. on Sundays.
The Granbury Opera Guild will host a First Night reception on the second floor of the Opera House from6:30-7:30 P.M. in honor of opening night of the musical on Friday, Feb. 24.
