Last week’s episode of MasterChef ended in a nail-biting cliffhanger with Lipan’s Mike Newton and Yachecia of Detroit, Michigan battling it out to stay in the competition.

The two were sent to the elimination cook-off by their blue team captain after a loss in the VIP Caesars Palace challenge in Las Vegas.

“They threw me under the bus. I portioned out all the fish, I had to go help Caitlin do the squash blossoms and I had to help Gabe with dressing,” Newton said in phone interview with the E-T. “Jeff’s fish was raw and again, Jeff gets by, so I was pretty pissed about it to be honest. I kind of called him (Daniel, blue team captain) out. I wasn’t happy at all.”

During the elimination round Newton and Yachecia were asked to prepare a difficult dish in 45 minutes — champagne-poached oysters, homemade pasta topped with Beurre blanc and caviar — and present it to judges Gordon Ramsay, Christina Tosi and Aaron Sanchez.

Things seemed to be going smoothly for Newton, though stressful, until the last minute.

“My food was perfect — my pasta and Beurre blanc was perfect — I just couldn’t get the dang (caviar) jar open,” Newton said. “Because of my stroke, because I have MS, I don’t have much strength in my left hand so that’s the reason I was having a tough time with it. I could see all the crew and everyone going nuts while I was trying to open it and I couldn’t get the son-of-a-gun off.”

Newton eventually pried the jar open with a knife, but was unable to get the caviar and his Beurre blanc on the plate.

The judges said Newton’s oysters and pasta were perfect.

The judges deliberated for quite a while on who should be eliminated.

The episode ended in a cliffhanger making the audience wait until tonight’s two-hour episode to find out what happens.

Newton recently made a trip back to his hometown in Lipan for a fundraiser, which raised more than $18,000 and a truck-load of goods for the food pantry.

“We had people come from Stephenville, Dublin, Abilene, Fort Worth, people I’ve never met, so we had a great turnout,” Newton said. “It was a really fun time.”

Tune in at 7 p.m. tonight on FOX for the conclusion of last week’s MasterChef episode and find out if Newton is safe or if he's heading back to Lipan.
