Judging for all events in the 62nd annual Somervell County Youth Fair starts today at the Somervell County Expo Center in Glen Rose.

Somervell County AgriLife Extension Agent Zach Davis, who manages the county’s 4-H program, said it’s an exciting time for youth who are competing as well as the adults involved in the event.

“We’re excited about this year’s show,” Davis said. “I think every year the competition gets stouter and stouter. Somervell County youth have worked hard all year with their projects and this week they will get a chance to show off their hard work.”

The total number of entries this year, as reported by Youth Fair officials, is 343, with 164 individual exhibitors.

In 2017 there were 378 entries and 208 exhibitors. Last year’s premium sale totaled $127,040. The live auction for food and art totaled $11,650.

The check-in time for swine, goat, sheep, cattle, and ag mechanics/projects/jobs was held Thursday. Early Friday morning was the check-in time for food, crafts, sewing, art, and ag mechanics/projects/jobs.

The start of judging will be seen with the swine division at 8 a.m. today (Friday, Jan. 12).

Judging for the final event, cattle, is set to start at 3 p.m. today.

The Youth Fair lunch — open to buyers, exhibitors, parents and family members — will be from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

The awards presentation is set to start at noon Saturday. The livestock premium sale will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday.
