The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for much of North Texas that includes wintry precipitation beginning Monday night and into Tuesday.

Light rain will arrived in the area Monday afternoon, transitioning into light sleet and a brief period of freezing rain.

The NWS is warning that driving will likely become hazardous Monday night and Tuesday morning. 

“Driving could become very difficult at times, particularly along and south of the I-20 corridor.”

Areas affected by the winter weather include Erath, Somervell, Eastland, Hamilton, Hood, Palo Pinto and Tarrant counties.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s Monday night with wind chills in the single digits to teens. Highs Tuesday will be in the upper 20s to low 30s. 

Lows will be in the teens Tuesday night with a gradual warmup on Wednesday.
