Jaylan Evans, a 2017 Glen Rose High School graduate who is now a freshman student at Texas Christian University, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA).

Evans was one of 14 people who received a scholarship awarded by the THSBCA, and was honored on Jan. 12 during the Hall of Fame Banquet in Waco. She is majoring in Marketing.

Evans’ parents are James and Jill Evans. James, the head baseball coach for Glen Rose High School, said that each year there are scholarship opportunities open to qualified children of THSBCA members who apply and submit an essay.

Evans ranked 19th scholastically out of her graduating class of 104 students with a grade-point average of 3.67, and has received a total of 10 scholarships.

In high school, Jaylan Evans earned academic all-state honors while earning varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, track and field, softball and cheerleading.

Her senior year, Evans was a regional qualifier in pole vault, after reaching the area meet the previous three years.

Evans was a member of the National Honor Society and the GRHS Student Council, and was Class Secretary for two years. She was a Wendy’s High School Heisman School Winner for GRHS her senior year.
