The weekend is here with some fun happenings in Glen Rose and the surrounding area. Make it a good one, and TGIF!
1. Night Hike
Explore Dinosaur Valley State Park in the dark at its Night Hike taking place from 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday starting at the main track site parking lot. Those attending will join a park ranger and hunt for scorpions, spider sniff and listen for nocturnal wildlife. Blacklight flashlights will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis but you are welcome to bring your own. Binoculars are also recommended for moon viewing. 2. Backpacking 101
If you want to learn more about exploring the great outdoors, join an experienced backpacker at Dinosaur Valley from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the park’s amphitheater for Backpacking 101. Attendees will gain knowledge and learn about gear and planning.
3. STEM Day with the Girl Scouts
Bring the kids and have them challenge myths by conducting hands-on experiments at STEM Day with the Girl Scouts of Central Texas taking place from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Mistletoe Hut in Stephenville. The event is open to kids kindergarten-eighth grades and is free to attend.
4. Fossil Rim photo tour
Grab your camera and head to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center for a photo tour taking place from 3-7 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $65 per person and the tour will feature the 1,800 acres of pastures and 50-plus species of wildlife to photograph. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 254-897-2960.
5. Big Break Team Roping
Catch some roping action at the Big Break Team Roping event taking place Saturday and Sunday at Lone Star Arena. Books will open at 8 a.m. and roping will kick off at 10 a.m. For more information contact Ben Clements at 432-349-2572.
