Glen Rose High School had 26 students who qualified for the state band competition, based on their results in the recent UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest, Band Director Ray Portillo said.
The students, who earned 37 First Division Ratings in all, advancing to state are:
Twirling — Laney Whitefield.
Alto Sax Solo & Saxophone Quartet — Lucas Quirl.
Saxophone Quartet — Elizabeth Barraza.
Saxophone Quartet — Michelle Marra.
Saxophone Quartet — Jacob Merrill.
Clarinet Trio – Brandi Black, Adriana Herrera, and Abigail Johnson.
Clarinet Choir – Destinee Austin, Merari Beltran, Brandi Black, Lilla Boyett, America Gutierrez, Abigail Johnson, and Nayelli Melendez.
Brass Quintet – Jesus Castellanos, Rachel Gosdin, Jesse Ramirez, Felicity Austin, and Julian Talavera.
Percussion Ensemble – Orrin Miller, Cayden Daniels, Addison Fenner, Jett Karels, Adrian Lewis, Jacy Moss, Jordan Nabors and Mason Daniels.
“The band students continue to work hard and their directors are very proud of them,” Portillo stated.
The state contest will be held during Memorial Day Weekend. The Tiger Pride Band is currently working on their UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest which will be held on April 4 in Glen Rose.
