Oakdale Park manager Michael Leamons has been named as interim city administrator for Glen Rose.

Following an executive session at the end of a City Council budget workshop on May 31, the Glen Rose City Council voted 4-1 to give Leamons those duties, which became effective June 1. Council member Linda James voted no, while the rest — Dennis Moore, Robert Marquez, Chris Bryant and Julia Douglas — vote for Leamons to fill the interim role.

The city administrator position was vacated by Chester Nolen on May 11 after Nolen and the council agreed to terminate his contract. Nolen had signed a new one-year contract in February.

Leamons, who was named as Oakdale Park's manager in January 2017, said he will also continue to manage the park until a new city administrator is hired.

Leamons, 56, previously served six years as the city administrator in Hico, where he still resides.

Mayor Sue Oldenburg said she has been impressed with the job Leamons has done in managing Oakdale Park, saying that he has “turned it around 360 degrees” since he was hired by the city for that post.

“He has experience, and he’s done such an excellent job on the park,” Oldenburg said. “I can’t praise him enough, as far as the park. What he’s done to that park is absolutely unbelievable with the camaraderie, and the park is terrific.”

Leamons noted that any time he is fulfilling his duties at Oakdale Park and not immediately available at City Hall, Mayor Oldenburg will be there to handle any questions from any residents who walk in or issues that may come up concerning administrative duties. Of course, he will be able to monitor incoming emails at either location.

Oldenburg said of the process and time frame it may take for the interview process and hiring a new city administrator, “From past experience, around five to seven months.”

“I’m happy with how it’s working out so far,” Leamons said.

The Oakdale Park pool is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. It is closed to the public on Mondays.
