We hope everyone enjoyed the Labor Day weekend. The winners at the 42 tournament held August 29 were: 1st place – Billie Flanary and Tamra Black; 2nd place – Nancy Moore and Dortha Beck; 3rd placed – Wyveda Dowdy and Ray Dowdy; and 4th place – Ray Mercer and James Kelley. If you enjoy playing 42, come by the Center, and you will surely find some other 42 players to join you. The next 42 tournament begins at 9 am on Wednesday, September 19.
On Monday and Thursday the chess players will meet from 10 am to 3 pm. Bingo starts at 10:30 am on Monday and Friday, and a trip to Walmart for citizens 60 and over leaves at 1 p.m. on Monday. Grocery shopping trips are Tuesday and Friday with the drivers leaving the Center at 1 p.m. those days. A trip to Dollar General leaves the Center at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. If you are 60 and over and would like to be picked up for any of these trips, please call the Center by 10 am that day to reserve your seat.
The woodcarvers meet on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon. The fitness group, led by Terri Lucas, gathers at 10:30 a.m. that morning. The fitness group also exercises on Thursday, meeting at 10:30 a.m. that morning.
On Wednesday you can join others in playing Bingo, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A group for line dancing gathers at 10:30 a.m. that morning. And your blood pressure can be checked at 11:30 a.m. by the Glen Rose Nursing Home staff.
Shots for the flu will be given by the staff at Best Value from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Be sure to come by then if you still need your flu shot.
Our monthly dance begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 15. Michael Cote and band will be playing so be sure to come by for a fun evening of dancing or just listening. You may bring a snack to share. Coffee and tea are provided. The cover charge is only $5 per person. We look forward to seeing you there.
Don’t forget to call the Center to reserve your meal Monday through Friday. Please call before 10 a.m. so that we can get a count for Judy, our cook, for the meal that day. If you want to reserve for the whole week, you are welcome to call on Monday to let us know.
Our Center is located at 209 SW Barnard, 254-897-2139. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. in the morning to 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon. Meals eaten at the Center for those 60 and over: donations are very much appreciated; those under 60 years of age: $5.50; take-out meals are $3.75 for citizens 60 and over and $5.50 for those under 60 with drink and dessert included.
