GLEN ROSE — The City of Glen Rose and the Glen Rose Convention & Visitors Bureau are now taking applications for vacant board positions and soon-to-be-open positions.
“The boards are a good way for people to get involved with the city and learn what’s going on, and it’s also a channel that they can follow to get more involved on the political side of the city — possibly to run for office,” Glen Rose City Administrator Michael Leamons said.
The city has two immediate openings for vacant positions on the Board of Adjustments and two positions on the Planning & Zoning Commission that will come open Jan. 5, 2019.
The P&Z advises the City Council on the development of the city and advises the council on the short-term and long-term implications of potential plans. It also recommends programs and policies to help aid the community in accomplishing its goals.
The ZBOA is a five-member board appointed by the Glen Rose City Council to grant relief from the enforcement of the zoning ordinance in certain hardship situations and to hear appeals on decisions regarding city ordinances.
The GRCVB has two positions open on its Advisory Board, and Glen Rose Convention & Visitors Bureau Director Kelly Harris is hoping to present names to the Glen Rose City Council on Dec. 10. She currently has two applications, but she would like to have more.
“People need to be involved so they can have a say in what’s being done with what’s coming in and what’s going out,” Harris said. “Our board is responsible for approving grants and any changes we need to make to policy. It’s citizen participation. They have a say in what gets passed.”
Applications for the CVB can be obtained at the CVB office located at 100 NE Barnard Street, while applications for the city positions can be obtained by contacting city secretary Stephanie Ritchie at the City Hall located at 201 NE Vernon Street.
