GLEN ROSE — Four Glen Rose High School choir students are in the running for all-state choir.

After competition in the Region 5 Pre-area Audition at Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Fort Worth on Nov. 16, Emma Sheffield (alto), Ashlynn Perry (alto), Blake Perry (tenor) and Colin Young (tenor) were selected to the Area Choir and will audition for the All-State Choir on Jan. 12 at Texas Women’s University.

“They have worked very hard and have competed against some talented singers in Region 5,” said GRHS Choir Director Samuel Teal. “This an exciting time for them and the GRHS Choir Program.”

These students qualified for the All-Area Choir during Round 1 in September. Each section (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) had 14-18 students from each region, and the top eight were selected by a panel of judges for the All-Area Choir.

At Arborlawn, Teal said students auditioned on cuts from two songs for a panel of five judges as well as auditioned a sight-reading melody.

Sheffield, Ashlynn Perry, Blake Perry and Young, along with Hunter Smith also performed in a concert the Mansfield Performing Arts Center on Nov. 15 with other members of the Region 5 and Region 7 All-Region choirs.

“The Mansfield PAC is an amazing auditorium that was recently built and it holds around 4,000,” Teal said. “The venue is amazing, and it was a special performance for our students.”

The GRHS Choir will hold its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, Dec. 20 at the GRHS auditorium, and the event is free to the public. The concert will features the GRHS Varsity Choir and the GRJH Advanced Girls Choir, Dude Choir and Beginning Junior Choir.

Gracie Smith, Ashton Overly, Avril Tovar and Hannah McCarthy were named to the JHS All-Region Choir. They auditioned and were selected to the Region 30 Middle School All-Region Choir in late October.
