Fossil Rim Somervell County Day

Somervell County Day at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center will be Saturday, Dec. 8. Proof of residency or employment in Somervell County as well as two nonperishable items per person will get you free admission into the park. The food items will be donated to PaPa’s Pantry in Glen Rose. 

While you’re at Fossil Rim, make sure your kids get a photo with Santa Dan.

Tour of Homes 

The 2018 Glen Rose Christmas Tour of Homes will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, from 4-8 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and kids 12 and under are free.

Breakfast with Santa

Breakfast & Sing-Along with Santa will be held on Dec. 1 from 8:30 -10:30 a.m. at the Oakdale Park Convention Center at 1019 NE Barnard Street.

The cost is $10 for adults and up to two kids under the age of 10 will be admitted with each paid adult ticket.

The event will be limited to the first 50 kids.

Bluegrass potluck and supper 

The Somervell County Committee on Aging is hosting a Bluegrass & Potluck Supper with Ceta Moore & Friends on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Somervell County Senior Center located at 209 SW Barnard Street.

Shopping extravaganza

Support local small businesses on Dec. 8 from 10-4 p.m. by shopping at the 4th Annual Holiday Shopping Extravaganza at the Somervell County Expo Center located at 202 E. Bo Gibbs Drive.

Admission is free to see the products of 40 vendors who will be on site where you can find something for everyone on your Christmas list. In addition, there will be a food drive for PaPa’s Pantry where two donated items will get you one raffle ticket. There will also be live entertainment.

Street taco supper, auction

A street taco supper will be held on Dec. 8 from 4-6 p.m. at the Glen Rose Intermediate cafeteria at 201 Allen Drive in Glen Rose to benefit GRHS school teacher Doug Ogletree, who underwent a kidney and liver transplant.

The cost of the dinner is $6 per person.

FUMC Stable & Cookie Walk

The Glen Rose FUMC located at 411 NE Barnard Street is hosting a Stable & Cookie Walk in Saturday, Dec. 8. The Cookie Walk is from 11-5 p.m. and the Stable Walk is from noon-6 p.m.

The Stable Walk is free of charge, while the Cookie Walk will have cookies, candies, breads and other treats. Some items will be individually priced, cookie and candies will be sold by weight.

The Hit Men Rock N’ Roll and Christmas Classic Show

The legendary Hit Men Rock ’N Roll and Christmas Classic Show will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Glen Rose High School Auditorium.

Enjoy the biggest hits of the 60s, 70s and early 80s from the artists who performed on those records along with Rockin' Christmas Classics.

All seats are $25 or $35. A high school student section is $10 the night of the show.

Dinosaur Valley State Park food drive

DVSP will be accepting nonperishable, unexpired food items for day-use admission into the park on Dec. 15. Bring in food and get in free. This pertains to individuals 13 or older and doesn’t include campers.

Winter Solstice Celebration

Dinosaur Valley State Park is hosting a Winter Solstice Celebration on Friday, Dec. 21, from 3:30-10 p.m.

Hikers will meet at the main track site and then hike to the overlook and celebrate the Winter Solstice at 4:23 p.m. After the hike, participants can meet at the amphitheater for winter warmth by the campfire. At 8 p.m., participants will celebrate the start of winter with stories by the campfire, the burning of a yule log and winter-themed crafts.

Dino Dive & First Day Hikes

The 3rd Annual Dinosaur Dive will be held Jan. 1 from 9-3 p.m. at Dinosaur Valley State Park.

There will be a costume contest, activities, hot chocolate, food, and the Polar Plunge into the frigid Blue Hole to start off the New Year.

First day hikes are set for 9 a.m. (intermediate hike, 4-5 miles) and 10 a.m. (beginner’s hike).
