Ramblin’ Rose Curvy Boutique located in downtown Glen Rose is a new boutique specializing in plus-size women’s clothing.
Co-owner April Davis said she opened Ramblin’ Rose exactly one year ago and plans to host a one-year celebration from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
The celebration will include sales, giveaways and goodie bags will be given to the first 25 shoppers.
The Reporter sat down with Davis to learn more about Ramblin’ Rose and why it’s unique compared to other boutiques.
Here is what we’ve learned:
1. Two years ago, Davis approached her mom, Nettie Davis-Geistweidt and told her she wanted to open a strictly plus-size boutique.
“It’s really hard to find cute clothes in plus size without having to drive really far, or order online,” Davis said.
2. The mother-and-daughter duo decided to open their boutique in a small back room of Davis’ Hot Mess Art Studio.
“Our first grand opening weekend, we did so good,” Davis said. “We were really surprised. We were really excited about how much the community of Glen Rose [came to check out our boutique.] I would say about 90 percent of our customers our opening weekend were all from here. We almost sold out of everything in the backroom.”
3. Last September, Davis and her mom realized that they needed a bigger space for their inventory, so they took over the building and Davis moved her art studio across the street.
4. Ramblin’ Rose currently has an entire wall dedicated to Davis’ artwork.
“I’ve loved art since I was a kid. My whole life, I’ve taught art lessons," she said. “I will graduate in May from my art degree from Tarleton, then I'm going to hopefully get into their therapy program in August and do art therapy.”
5. Ramblin’ Rose carries sizes 12-26 in jeans, T-shirts, dresses, dusters and kimonos as well as shoes, jewelry, hats, purses and more.
“It’s nice to come in here and know that anything in here is going to fit you if you’re a plus size. You don’t have to look for a little area; everything in here will fit you," Davis said.
6. Davis handles the Facebook page, graphic design and website for her boutique that is continuing to grow. Her mom, Nettie, handles the window displays and takes care of customers.
7. The main thing that makes Ramblin’ Rose unique is the fact that they only carry plus-size clothing.
“Everything is plus-size and that’s how we always will be. We’ll never change,” Davis said.
8. Davis’ friend Shonda Douglas and aunt Cindy Walker Golliday model for the boutique.
“A lot of times when you go to plus-size boutiques, sometimes it’s not really plus,” she said. “Every time we order clothes, when we get them, we try them on, we take photos with them and post them, so every single thing in the store has been photo'd and tried on. If it’s not true plus size, then we send it back. It’s nice because people can see what it fits like on their body type.”
9. Their hours of operation are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from noon-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
“It’s not all about the sales,” Geistweidt said. “It’s about what makes the customer look and feel good. We take pride in standing behind what we sell is true to size. Everyone in any size wants to look beautiful.”
