It only happens once a year.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is opening its doors free of charge to Somervell County residents. The annual event will take place on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Its our way of giving back to the community to show our thanks to them, Billie Kinnard, marketing and public relations director, said.

Food and toy drives, benefiting the LDL Foundation, will also be held Saturday. Larry and Judy Higgins of Hammonds Barbecue will serve free food from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for individuals who donate a nonperishable food item or a new, unwrapped toy.

Santa will be present for photo opportunities, accompanied by holiday musical entertainment.

Somervell County residents who register for a Fossil Rim membership will also receive a 10 percent discount Saturday, Kinnard said.
