The Somervell County Commissionerís Court held the first of two public hearings for the proposed 2008-09 county budget.

County Judge Walter Maynard opened the floor for public comments at 9:30 a.m. No one in the room approached the court and the hearing was closed at 9:31 a.m. The next public meeting is scheduled for Mon., Sept. 8, at 9:30 a.m. in the Commissionerís Courtroom.

The commissionerís proceeded to a special meeting.

The healthcare plan was slated as the first agenda item, but the county is still in negotiations and the issue was tabled.

The second agenda item involved approving an alternative method for disposing of rainwater runoff from the hospital expansion project. The commissioners discussed the matter in executive session and no action was taken on the issue.

Precinct 1 voters will head to the newly renovated Commissionerís Courtroom for future elections.

Last week, the commissionerís voted to approve the relocation of the Precinct 1 Election Day polling place. Commissioner Zach Cummings said they temporarily had to move the polling location in March because the Commissionerís Courtroom was under construction. He spoke with local Republican and Democrat party leaders and said neither group was opposed to moving back, as long as signs and notices were posted.
