In separate meetings, Glen Rose city council members and Somervell County commissioner’s approved the expansion of the John Graves Scenic Waterway through Somervell County.
At Monday night’s city council meeting, Billy Huckaby said the waterway begins near Possum Kingdom and Friends of the Brazos would like to extend it by 75 miles to include Somervell County. He felt it was important for the city to approve the expansion since Graves, a writer, is from Glen Rose.
Huckaby said the city would benefit because Friends of the Brazos would help keep the river clean by helping to clean up litter and trash.
The council approved the resolution with a 4-0 vote.
Friends of the Brazos president Ed Low spoke at Tuesday’s commissioner’s meeting. In addition to keeping litter, trash and tires out of the river, Low said they are involved in an effort to bring a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) study to the area to evaluate damage that has been to Brazos in this area.
The court also approved the resolution to extend the waterway with a 4-0 vote.
