Family and friends of Blake Nabors, who passed away last year at age 46, gathered last week to honor Blake with a bench in his memory on the downtown square.

The bench, located in front of the building at Elm and Vernon streets on the square's west side, will have a commemorative plaque installed above it soon.

Nabors graduated from Glen Rose ISD in 1982 and served as president of Somervell County Historical Society, chairman of numerous community activities and as executive officer for UNICEF, director of advance for the secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and worked as deputy regional director for U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

The bench features a rose motif at the top and a polo player and horse on the bottom.
