Sweet sounds will swell from Oakdale Park this Friday through Sunday when the 30th Annual Lone Star State Dulcimer Festival brings its special brand of acoustic harmony and some of the nation's best dulcimer musicians to Glen Rose.
The festival will feature a series of concerts of nationally known performers, including Aubrey Atwater, Elwood Donnelly and Judy Schmidt.
Other performers include festival manager Dana Hamilton, David Moran and Joe Morgan, Sweet Song String Band, Scott Odena, Russel Cook, Time Was and many others.
The festival is free to the public. Free workshops will be offered on Friday and Saturday. The festival also features an arts and crafts fair.
“We have never charged any admission and have been able to keep producing the festival through donations, T-shirt sales, craft booths and raffle tickets,” festival organizers said. “We take great pride in bringing the people of Texas the finest musicians and performers available.”
On Saturday, the Texas State Mountain Dulcimer Contest will be held at 10 a.m. and the Texas State Hammer Dulcimer contests will be held at 2 p.m.
Free evening concerts and old-fashioned square dances will be held Friday and Saturday nights.
Gospel music begins Sunday at 9 a.m. Also on Sunday at 12:05 p.m., listen to some of the tallest Texas tales at the Texas Liar's Contest.
