The Somervell County Water District (SCWD) received $363,750 in matching funds from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission (TPWC) on Thursday, Jan. 22.

SCWD initially requested a 75 percent matching share grant totaling $450,000 to construct a new two-lane boat ramp, courtesy docks, restroom, fish cleaning station, parking area, access drive, bulkheads and dredging at the new Wheeler Branch Reservoir.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department staff reviewed projects submitted by 16 entities in the state and awarded a total of $2,922,255 to 13 different boat ramp repair and renovation projects.

TPWC focused funding on projects that directly addressed public boating access improvements.

Funding for support facilities, such as restrooms and fish cleaning stations, was not recommended.

Projects that were not recommended for funding will be reconsidered during future funding cycles.

The Brazos River Authority also received $82,500 to help renovate two boat ramps and bulkheads, new courtesy docks, lighting and signs at Possum Kingdom Lake.
