The Somervell County Commissioner’s Court met briefly Monday morning to tie up a few loose ends.
Among the four-item agenda was the approval of two contracts between Somervell County and Hill College. Both contracts, one in the Gibbs Industrial Park and one at 1505 N.E. Big Bend Trail, were unanimously approved to be renewed “as presented” by commissioners.
County Judge Walter Maynard said one contract was for a three-year renewal period and the other was for two years.
Commissioners also approved a surety bond for newly-appointed Justice of the Peace Ronnie Webb and discussed repairs to the steps at the Bird Sanctuary.
“The steps - they are either non-existent or are real dangerous,” Maynard said.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau is paying for the steps to be repaired, but Maynard wanted to make sure the county was allowed to have an outside contractor work on the property.
“My only question is, ‘Are we allowed to let them work there or not?’” he said.
County Attorney Ron Hankins told the commissioners the county could allow such repairs from an outside contractor.
A motion to allow the repair of the steps was approved unanimously.
