The Glen Rose City Council has been busy for months on end, often meeting more than once a month. At Monday’s meeting, the council decided to make the increased meeting numbers permanent.

“We are almost meeting twice a month or three times a month anyway,” council member Bob Strickland said. “It seems like we might as well.”

The vote was unanimous and the council will now meet on the second and fourth Mondays of every month.

The council then discussed raising the salary of newly-elected council members from $10 per meeting to $100 per month, beginning in May 2010.

Council member Chris Bryant was responsible for placing the item on the agenda. He said he felt that an increase was needed for the officials who volunteer their time and he was in favor of the increase whether he was re-elected or not.

“I understand it’s a volunteer position but (we) spend our money to be up here,” Bryant said.

The motion passed on a vote of four to one, with council member Strickland opposing.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 11, 2010.
