The driver of an Inergy Propane truck was airlifted to the hospital Tuesday, April 21, after Somervell County volunteer firefighters freed him from the wreckage after his truck rolled over.

Somervell County Fire Marshal Darrell Webb said the driver was headed east on FM 200 Tuesday afternoon when the right side of the vehicle slipped off the side of the road. When the driver attempted to correct the vehicle, the weight of the load caused the truck to tip over.

Webb said the truck was reported to be 60 percent full of propane at the time of the accident.

“There was the smell of gas when we first arrived, but fortunately it was just a valve,” Webb said. “But it’s always a concern in a situation like that.”

Webb said the truck had to be partially lifted to help free the driver. Parham’s Towing from Stephenville was called to help pull the heavy truck up far enough to allow rescue crews to reach the victim. Crews then used the Jaws of Life.

“We did have to cut some of the cab out,” Webb said.

Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Bryan Washko is investigating the accident.
