On Gobbler’s Knob, Penn., Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow Monday morning on Groundhog’s Day, signaling another six weeks of winter yet to come.

While students may rejoice at the possibility of another day off of school, they may not be so enthused to learn they will have to make up for those extra days off.

Glen Rose ISD Superintendent Wayne Rotan announced Monday that students would attend school on Monday, April 13, to make up for the day lost to icy weather last Wednesday.

Rotan said holding school on April 13 will allow teachers and students the same number of instructional days to prepare for the TAKS scheduled to begin in April.

State law requires public schools to build two make-up days into their schedule. If GRISD does need to cancel school again for inclement weather conditions, May 15 will be the next make-up day.

Somervell County first responders logged three calls on Wednesday for accidents due to icy weather. All three accidents occurred before 10:30 a.m. and no serious injuries were reported.
