A man attempted to abduct a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of Brookshire's grocery store Monday night, eyewitnesses said.
Details were sketchy at press time, but Somervell County Sheriff Greg Doyle confirmed an incident took place. A press release was being prepared about the incident, but it was not available last night as the Reporter was going to press.
According to an eyewitness, a man was sitting in a red truck in the parking lot when a woman emerged with groceries. After the store employee helped put the woman's groceries in her car, she got in and was making a call.
"This guy came around to the passenger side of his truck and then all of a sudden he opened her car door and grabbed her and told her she was going with him," the eyewitness reported. "She told him 'no' and then he waved a gun in her face.
"He was able to pull her all the way out of her vehicle, but she fought him and was finally able to break free and ran back to the store," the eyewitness continued. "A man was coming out and she asked him to help her, so he got the license number."
The sheriff's department arrested the man very early Tuesday morning. He is said to be a local with a history of mental problems and was intoxicated at the time of the incident. He was said to be in jail pending a $100,000 bond.
A friend of the victim said the woman is all right but "very shaken up."
"Please warn all your friends," the eyewitness said. "We just can't be too careful, even in Glen Rose."
The Reporter will post details of the incident on its Web site today as they become available.
