Two people, including a Somervell County sheriff’s deputy were transported to Glen Rose Medical Center (GRMC) Feb. 23 following a two-vehicle accident.
Deputy Austin Cox was headed east on US Highway 67 when he attempted to turn around to catch someone speeding in the opposite direction.
The accident report states that Kenneth Nuckols, driving a 1992 maroon Buick LaSabre, was driving behind Cox. Nuckols was unable to stop in time and struck Cox’s cruiser.
Both drivers were taken to GRMC with injuries.
Somervell Sheriff Greg Doyle said although the cruiser will be out of commission for a while, county residents won’t notice fewer deputies on patrol.
The sheriff’s department has two new cruisers ordered to replace aging vehicles in the fleet.
Another cruiser, driven by Deputy Richard Talavera, was damaged in a traffic accident on Dec. 30. Doyle said the cruiser is still in the shop, but should be back on the streets soon.
