Six candidates have filed to run for three seats on the Glen Rose City Council, while two incumbent school board members are seeking re-election.

The deadline for candidates to file was 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Seeking re-election to the council are Barbara Miller and Rocky Terry. Councilman Ricky Villa decided not to run again. All council positions are elected by an at-large, or citywide, vote.

The other four candidates are Dianne K. Gruber, who is active in civic organizations and ran for the council in 2008; former mayor Johnny Martin; 4-B Economic Tax Corporation member Sue Oldenburg; and Ken Prikryl, who serves on the city's Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee.

Two seats on the Glen Rose Independent School Board are up for election. Incumbents Wade Busch and Brady Brown both filed to run again. No other candidates had filed by yesterday's deadline.

However, prospective school board candidates have until Monday, March 15, to file as write-in candidates. Although schools are closed for spring break next week, the GRISD office will be open from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. for anyone wanting to file as a write-in candidate.

The election will be held May 8. A $20 million school bond proposal to build a new gymnasium and make other improvements also will be on the ballot.
