A Glen Rose pedestrian was struck and killed by a truck June 12 while attempting to cross US Hwy. 67.
According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Bryan Washko, Ernest Lee White, 73, was on foot and attempting to cross the highway in front of Burger King when a large white truck, driven by Stephenville resident Jerry Werner struck and killed him shortly after 2:30 p.m. The accident report states that Werner was traveling the posted speed limit of 45 mph.
Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Dub Gillum said it is important for motorists to watch for pedestrians who may be crossing the street.
"Pedestrians have the right of way, whether they are in a crosswalk or not," Gillum said. "They may be issued a citation for not crossing in a crosswalk, but ultimately drivers are supposed to yield to pedestrians."
