The Somervell County Commissioners held a special meeting on July 21 to issue a county-wide burn ban.

The ban will be effective for 90 days and prohibits all outdoor burning. The court may lift the ban sooner if conditions improve.

The burn ban does permit burning for the purpose of firefighter training; public utility, natural gas pipeline or mining operations; planting or harvesting of agriculture crops; and burns that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager.

Violators of the burn ban may be charged with a Class C Misdemeanor and fined up to $500.
