The results are in and the Glen Rose Reporter is pleased to announce a number of recent successes in the areas of journalism, sports coverage and advertising.

Former News Editor Erin Cooper brought home the biggest of four awards by winning second place Journalist of the Year from the North & East Texas Press Association 2009 Better Newspaper Contest, which judged the quality of selected works compiled during the 2009 calendar year.

“Finally! In a murky sea of entries, I’m finally grounded in your subject matter with clean writing,” judges comments said of Cooper’s submissions. “The greatest of journalists let the facts speak for themselves - with no editorializing, no sensationalizing and no apparent skewing. You delivered exactly that.”

Winning entries were selected by judges from the South Texas Press Association and announced at a convention April 8-10 in McKinney. While the Reporter management and staff were busy at work and not able to attend the event, they were delighted by the successes.

In addition to Cooper’s achievement, the Reporter brought home a second place award for sports coverage and third place recognitions in feature stories and advertising.

“I am delighted by the Reporter’s success,” Publisher Rochelle Stidham said. “It means a lot to receive such recognitions when being judged by other professionals in the industry. I would like to thank my staff for their devotion and hard work.”

Cooper currently works as the multimedia editor for the Stephenville Empire-Tribune, a sister paper to the Reporter.
