Erath County authorities and management of Rough Creek Lodge located off of US Highway 67 near Glen Rose are trying to determine what went wrong in a shooting accident that sent a 17-year-old male to the hospital after his thumb was blown off at the lodge Monday morning.

The victim was airlifted to a Fort Worth hospital after a shotgun allegedly malfunctioned and discharged, shooting off the victim’s thumb.

The victim was shooting with a Rough Creek instructor when the accident occurred, said Chief Investigator Jason Upshaw with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.

Management at Rough Creek Lodge said they are still investigating the incident and would release more information at a later time.
