The Glen Rose Tigers dropped their season opener to the Mineral Wells Rams 27-20 on Friday night.
The Rams jumped out to an early advantage when quarterback Hunter McCoy tossed the first two touchdown passes of the night. McCoy would throw four on the night with the last two coming in the fourth quarter.
McCoy got the Rams out to a 13-0 lead before Glen Rose achieved a first down.
The Glen Rose offense failed to get a first down until the second quarter — the third series of the game. After a 45-yard run by Colt Plaster on fourth and one, the new Tiger QB dove into the end zone from two yards out making the score 13-7 with 8:54 left in the first half.
After the rough start, the Tiger defense was dominant over the second and third quarters, and the Tiger offense finally gave them a lead to work with when Plaster hit Kevin Brooks on a 48-yard bomb down the sideline to make it 14-13 with 10:50 left in the third.
Neither team posted a point until the final quarter of action.
Mineral Wells regained the lead when a broken play led to a touchdown from McCoy to Miranda Bell. Bell became the first female to score a football point in the history of Mineral Wells football.
Plaster found Dylan Rodriguez in the corner of the end zone from 25 yards out to tie the game at 20-20, but a missed extra point by Tanner Tongate, which clanged against the left upright failed to give the Tigers the lead.
Mineral Wells would commence to drive down the field and post the final tally when McCoy tossed his fourth touchdown from 10 yards away on third and eight.
