Oakdale Park pool's free Splash Day didn't last long on Sunday as patrons discovered they could get wet without even diving in.
A front moved in and cold rain began falling, keeping most people away.
“We had the pool open for about two hours,” Oakdale Park Manager Gary Ivy said.
Then it turned so cold that even the lifeguards were complaining, he said.
Still, some determined swimmers jumped in. Ivy and City Superintendent Ronald Bruce took the Oakdale Plunge and the ribbon cutting ceremony was held (thanks to Annie Greenberg and Diamond Bruce for the great pics).
But the free community-wide Splash Day will be rescheduled, most likely for the last day of school, Ivy said. This coming weekend won't work because the Lone Star State Dulcimer Festival is scheduled at the park.
