Reporter Staff Report

Mike Ford is sworn in as Somervell County Judge by 18th District Judge John Neill as the clock struck midnight and a new year began. Other elected county officials also took their oaths of office in the Courthouse Annex courtroom before a crowd of family members and well-wishers who stayed up late for the event. Others sworn in were re-elected County Commissioner James Barnard, new County Commissioner John Curtis, Justices of the Peace Ronnie Webb and Scott May, County Treasurer Barbara Hudson and District/County Clerk Candace Garrett. Ford, who ran as a Republican, succeeds Walter Maynard, who ran as a Democrat and was defeated in last year’s primary. He served as county judge for the past 12 years and is being honored at a reception on Saturday (see related story on page A5).
