The 53rd Annual Somervell County Youth Fair will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the Somervell County Expo Center.

Area youth have spent countless hours over the past year working with and grooming their projects in anticipation of the big show.

Animals can be brought to the center for check-in Thursday, Jan. 8, no sooner than 3:30 p.m. Swine, goat and sheep check-in begins at 5 p.m. Cattle check-in begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9.

Shows kick-off Friday at 9 a.m. with swine judging. Sheep judging will begin at 12:30 p.m. Goats will be judged at 1:30 p.m.

Youth with craft entries may check-in at 3 p.m. Judging will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Art entries may begin check-in at 3:30 p.m. and project or job entries can check-in at 4 p.m. Artwork will be judged at 5:30 p.m. Projects and jobs will be judged at 7 p.m.

All entries will be open for viewing after judging.

Saturday starts with dairy heifer judging at 8 a.m. and beef heifer judging at 8:30 a.m.

Poultry and rabbits need to be in place at 7 a.m. for judging at 8 a.m.

Food and clothing entries need to be in place by 8 a.m. for judging at 8:30 a.m. Entries will be available for viewing after judging.

Judging of market steers will begin at 10 a.m.

Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Expo Centerís main entrance. Hammondís Bar-B-Que provides the luncheon free of charge.

Animals that have not been selected for sale will be released at noon Saturday.

The Blue Ribbon Food Auction and awards presentation will begin at 1 p.m. in the Expo Centerís Main Entrance.

The fair wraps up with the livestock premium sale at 2 p.m.

All other entries will be released at 2 p.m.

For anyone who is not able to attend the fair but would still like to support the youth, contributions can be made to the Youth Fair Buyerís Pool. Contributions can be mailed to Somervell County Youth Fair Association, P.O. Box 893, Glen Rose, Texas, 76043; or dropped off at the Somervell County Extension Office located at 1405 Texas Drive in Glen Rose. Donations can also be made during the show.
