DALLAS - Luminant issued the following statement this week regarding Chief Executive Officer David Campbell:

David Campbell, Luminant's chief executive officer, has decided to leave the company effective Dec. 31. He has served as Luminant's CEO since 2008, and will begin a new role as a principal at an energy-focused investment firm in Dallas.

Mac McFarland, Luminant's chief commercial officer, will assume the role of Luminant chief executive officer starting Jan. 1.

Campbell started with the former TXU Corporation as executive vice president of corporate planning, strategy and risk in May 2004 and also served as TXU's chief financial officer.

"I leave Luminant most grateful to our work force of 4,440 men and women throughout Texas," Campbell said. "The Luminant team is a tremendously capable and effective group of employees. Each and every day, no matter the conditions, they focus relentlessly on safely powering Texas. I thank each of them for their dedication and their friendship."

Under his leadership, Luminant has accomplished several major milestones. Some notable highlights include:

Adding more than 2,100 megawatts of new low-cost, low-emissions coal generation at three new units in Texas. Expanding Luminant's lignite mining operations to support the new plants, enabling the company to set a new all-time production record in 2011. Improving the performance and availability of the coal fleet during peak demand periods. Reducing key emissions to 20 percent below 2005 levels. Maintaining Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant's position as a top-decile performer in the U.S. nuclear industry. Successfully guiding the company through a year-long legal challenge to the Environmental Protection Agency's Cross-State Air Pollution Rule.

"As Luminant passes the five year mark from its formation and a track record of meeting and exceeding its 2007 commitments, I felt the time was right to leave the company for a new challenge in a different field," Campbell added. "Luminant will be in great hands with Mac McFarland and he and his team are well positioned to lead Luminant into the next five years and beyond."
