Rebecca Yandell is celebrating the opening of a new business.

Last week, the Glen Rose Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting at Studio 67, a full service salon, located at 607 Big Bend Trail.

As the ceremony died down, the Reporter sat down with Yandell and got to know a little more about why the Granbury resident set up shop in Tiger territory and her experience in the cosmetology industry.

1 - Tell us about your background

I have been in the industry since I was 16 - more than 40 years. I am currently the director at Fort Worth Beauty School's Granbury campus, I have been there since the campus opened and was director of another campus for three years.

This is my third salon. I owned two in Burleson - Rebecca's Hair Gallery and Final Cut Sports Salon. I said I wouldn't open another one, but I just can't stay away. My students wanted me to open up so they could come to work for me. My position at the school allows me to my pick of the best students. And they are the most rewarding part of the job. I have a 100 percent passing rate - when you expect a lot, you get a lot.

2 - Why Glen Rose?

I have always loved the city - its beauty and history - and I felt opening a salon in a smaller community gives young kids a chance at some sort of a career. I also wanted to bring the passion and experience of myself and my stylists to town.

3 - What do you feel is the most important trait of a successful stylist?

Communication, attitude and professionalism. In addition to being knowledgeable, energetic and creative, a good stylist has to be able to talk to people and connect with  clients. People don't just go to their stylist for a cut and color, they share their problems and successes. You can get your hair and makeup done anywhere, but being able to form a bond with each client and leave your problems at the door is the key. You also have to live up to clients' expectations by providing the best serve possible and presenting yourself in a professional manner - dress nice, look nice and speak nicely.
