Glen Rose Intermediate School has been placed on The Just for the Kids (JFTK) Higher Performing List 2008.

The list is sponsored by the National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) and includes schools whose students’ academic growth on the TAKS is higher than predicted based on those same students’ previous test scores as compared to student performance at schools with similar demographics.

NCEA’s analysis used to determine students’ academic gains in math included results from spring 2006, 2007 and 2008 TAKS tests for grades 4 and 5 and achievement levels of students from third grade who have been continuously enrolled in the school district for three years or more, rather than prior test scores. All public and charter schools across the state who participated in the TAKS testing were considered with both student and school demographics being taken into account. Schools are ranked on a 5-step analysis to determine which campuses are achieving the greatest results. Campuses that achieve in the top 5 percent of all campuses earn the distinction of being named to the High Performing List.

Glen Rose Intermediate School was selected for recognition by NCEA because of students’ math scores on last year’s Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). School principal, Lauri Mapes, is quite proud of the teachers and students on her campus because of all the hard work that went into making such a dramatic improvement with their academic skills last year. In addition to this honor, the school also received a performance rating of “Recognized” by the Texas Education Agency for ensuring that all student groups tested in each of the subject areas tested, which include reading, science, and writing as well as math met rigorous passing standards.
