Third, fourth and fifth graders from Glen Rose Independent School District have been gearing up for their first experience in a Math Pentathlon this spring.

The gradeschoolers started meeting once a week after school before Christmas to practice for each event.

The fourth and fifth grade students compete in Contig 60, Queens and Guards, Juggle, Stars and Bars and Fab-a-Diffy. The competition is May 2 in Austin, Texas.

Participating fourth graders include Hailey Jimenez, Abby Jones Garcia, Sydney Gantt, Isaiah Williams, Jackson Keith, Jessy Daniels, Lily Tubbs, Aimee Cardona, Darrian Harjo, Elyssia Rivera, Juvia Flores,Tyler Ritchie, Hayden Sellmeyer, Brazos Overton, Brian Hernandez, Sara Hernandez, Johnny Reger, Wyatt Dahl, Kully Reynolds, Kori Parnell, Mallory Daniel, Jake Wasilchak, Kevin Hernandez and Sarah Ward.

Intermediate teachers RuthAnn Emerson and Sharmin Smith coach the team.

Participating fifth graders include Linda Barrera, Briseida Snachez, Ashlyn Reynolds, Diego Ruiz, Jared Brandt, Adam Talavera, Madison Wooten and Dakota Stroud.

The fifth grade team is coached by Kelly Johnson.

The third grade team is slated to compete in specialized math games at an April 4 tournament.
