Dustin Maldonado, a nurse at the Glen Rose Medical Center Nursing Home, is the first recipient of the Roger E. Marks Foundation's tuition reimbursement award.
He was a 2005 graduate of Glen Rose High School and attended college to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse, or LVN.
While working as a nurse at the facility, he decided to continue his education and become a Registered Nurse. Last year he applied to be considered for the award during his last semester of school.
Presenting a $1,000 check to Dustin during last week's meeting of the Somervell County Hospital Authority Board was Helen Kerwin of the Roger E. Marks Foundation board.
“We're fortunate to have a foundation that can do these kinds of things for us,” said Larry Shaw, the Hospital Authority Board's chairman.
