1 - Get a healthy start
Head over to Somervell County Expo Center where Glen Rose Medical Center and LDL Educational Resources Foundation will host their 18th annual health fair. State Rep. J.D. Sheffield will make an early appearance, handing out free helmets to protect area children on their biking, skateboarding, skating and scooter adventures. The fair will also offer a long list of free health screenings and information from medical providers and other industry professionals. The event will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
2 - Shop at the center
Somervell County Citizens' Center's monthly Swap & Shop has a new date. You won't want to miss the array of gifts and goodies as locals peddle their wares, including arts and crafts, costume jewelry and much more. The air-conditioned shopping extravaganza is now held on the first Friday of every month, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Be there.
3 - Enjoy live music
Stephenville's Mike Stanley Band will perform in the last of the city's First Friday Concert Series Friday. The band takes Oakdale Park's outdoor stage at 8 p.m. The show is free, and the music is Texas-style with a blues rock twist. Don't miss it.
4 - Go Jurassic
Cash in on Double Dino Days at Dinosaur World. Buy a fully-priced ticket in August, and receive a FREE ticket to return in December. Friendly dogs on leashes are always welcome, so even man's best friend can see the dinosaurs. Take a picnic lunch and make a day of your trip. The colossal display is located at 1058 Park Road 59. Call (254) 898-1526 for more information.
5 - Take a hike after dark
Hiking is fun, but hiking after dark - and avoiding the summertime heat - is even better. Take your flashlight and head over to Dinosaur Valley State Park to discover the night life. Walk the trails, listen to the night sounds and learn about the wildlife you may encounter while visiting the park. Meet at the park store parking lot before the hike begins at 8:30 p.m. Call (254) 897-4588 for more information.
