The historic Deason Cleaner’s Building, located on Elm Street across from the old Somervell County Courthouse, was moved from its original location to Heritage Park on Monday. The wooden building was moved by Earl Booker, of Crawford, who raised the structure from its foundation and transported it along a route including Cedar and Barnard Streets, before crossing the river and entering the park on Grand Street. The move was completed around 5 p.m. Monday and Booker returned Tuesday to stabilize the building on its new foundation within Heritage Park. The building’s move, although controversial among some local historians, was saved from demolition when city councilors and county commissioners OK’d the move and provided funds to relocate the structure after the property owner sought to sell the lot on the square.
