Special to the Reporter
Happy New Year, everyone! The year 2011, it sounds like science fiction, doesn’t it?
We had a great “New Year’s Eve” party on the 30th with Margie Hartsfield providing the entertainment. We counted down to noon instead of midnight and then toasted 2011 with non-alcoholic champagne. Margie is here every month on the fourth Wednesday to help celebrate the monthly birthdays, so come celebrate with us.
We will have a presentation by Dr. Rami from the Nucardio Heart Center on a new procedure for heart patients who are not good candidates for surgery. He will be speaking here on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 11:30 a.m.. The procedure is called ECP or External Counterpulsation. For more information you can also visit his website at nucardioheart.com.
Do you collect anything besides dust? Bring it down to the center and show it off on Thursday, Jan. 13, for our annual Collections Day. Toy trains, copper dishes, angels, Frankoma pottery, whatever, just bring your collection or some of it to show off.
With the holiday season behind us, it’s time to plan some outings and activities. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please call us or come by the center. We took a little break over the holidays from our scrapbooking, but everyone should have their holiday pictures ready for scrapbooking by our next session on Jan. 12.
Also, don’t forget we have a “42” tournament on the first and third Wednesdays and a Bunco tournament on the second and fourth Wednesdays.
It’s less than six weeks until Valentine’s Day and we will have our ballot box out in the next few days, so you’ll want to be thinking who you want to see as the center’s 2011 Valentine King and Queen.
Wii bowlers this week were Pauline and Kenny Price, Betty Campbell, Charles Grimmett, Tom Swaim and Alice Lance. Pauline Price had the high scoring game with a 233. We bowl every Monday at 10:30 a.m. and would love some competition.
Activities at the Citizens Center beginning Jan. 10 are; “42,” exercise, Wii bowling, chess and Wal Mart shopping on Monday; “42,” ceramics and needlework on Tuesday; “42,” Bunco tournament, Community Care health screening, scrapbooking and quilting on Wednesday, “42,” exercise, chess and David’s grocery shopping on Thursday; and “42,” quilting, bingo, collections display and Brookshires grocery shopping on Friday. Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, quilting, “42” and visiting going on every day.
Note: Swap & Shop will be on Friday, Jan. 21/ Our newsletter calendar mistakenly shows it to be on the 14th.
Our condolences to the family of Mary Helen Henderson.
