If you are a senior citizen and looking for something fun to do, then take a walk or drive down to the Senior Citizens building located on the right side of City Hall. We have a lot of newcomers to Walnut Springs and this would be a great way to meet some of your neighbors.
They are at the Center every Tuesday and Thursday from 11-12:30 for lunch. For those 60 or over, lunch is only $1.75 for a good, hot meal, including drink. For those under 60, lunch is $3. For more information, call Mildred Morrison at 254-797-3331.
Happy birthday to several folks. Betty Keller the April Foolís baby girl already celebrated and I didnít get it in the paper soon enough, so I am in the doghouse. Sorry Betty. Then another young lady will celebrate on the 16th. I canít tell you how old Randy Pullen will be, but I hear she is looking for a large windfall to be crossing her palms every month from now on. Then Johnny Espinoza told me that turned 79 on the 7th.
When he told me, it brought to mind how many moons he worked at the Walnut Springs Locker Plant, which was ran by Bill and Ladean Stansbury and JW Gann then.
This has not been a good month for Walnut Springs. First we lost Jerry Smith who grew up in Walnut Springs. He was laid to rest April 5. Russell Burns passed away April 8 at the age of 81. He would have turned 82 in May. His memorial service was held April 11 at the Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian and was buried by his first wife Patsy at the Brazos Point Cemetery. They had three daughters, Brenda, Debbie and Judy and two sons, Ricky and Ronnie. Estelle Young after spending several years in the rest home in Glen Rose passed away April 10 at the age of 91. Her funeral services were held April 13 at the Walnut Springs Baptist Church. The three of these wonderful people gave us all many memories that we will always have to hold onto. Our prayers and thoughts go out to all the family and friends.
